In December, I replaced my eight year old Samsung 9kg Heatpump dryer with a Miele T1 Excellence, EcoSpeed, Steam & 9KG Heatpump dryer. This was because the Samsung one was making grinding noises, the crappy plastic door catch was superglued on, and it then needed me to turn the drum to get it started - point being, it had a good run here, and it was ready to fail anytime soon - to avoid any issues over XMAS I bought the new dryer.
Then, just over a week of the new dryer being here (around 22nd December) the 5 year old Miele T1 washing machine stopped working, with the "flood protection active, call service" warning message. Beyond irritated at this - and the irony of replacing the dryer because it was going to fail, only to have the washer fail was not lost on me. Being XMAS, Miele couldn't get an engineer out until Jan 4th, which was OK, as we were off to our home in Spain from 26th onwards, so could live with that (plus we took a suitcase of dirty laundry to wash in spain, where we have an LG Washer and a Bosch Dryer; will write about those another day) The engineer turned up, took the back panel off, then looked at me and said - "nope, cant repair that, its a write off" - I asked "why" and he showed me. The TWIN DOS unit had been slowly leaking UltraPhase 2 (the bleach one) and it had literally rusted through the drip pan - the only thing there was the float switch! I asked where did this leave me - he said "we'll send you a new one out, the service centre will call you, so go online, choose one, and they'll send it free of charge" He went on to explain that the problems I had were common in the first generation of TWINDOS models, and Miele are just replacing customers machines, no quibble. So, how could I say no to this? I therefore requested the closest I could get to my old one - 1600spin, TWINDOS, Steam. There was one model, which was £1649, which I chose, and the order was placed. Only issue was the delay - it was in a ship somewhere, but as it was free, I was OK to wait. Today, 2nd Feb, I took delivery of a W1, 1600spin, 9KG, PowerWash model - as I type this it is just going through its calibration cycle at 90*c. So, once again, at least in my view, Miele have come through and delivered on a promise - to have parts/be able to repair machines for up to 10 (if not 15) years; they couldn't repair mine so just shipped a new one! I'll stick some pictures below! Chris |

Here's a few of the new dryer. I haven't got to use many features yet, but do love the build quality - like a tank compared to the Samsung Machine.
I have used the steam setting for bedding, and ironing is a joy. I think I'll use this a lot. Drying times are on a par with the Samsung, if not a little quicker. The fragrance dos - I have used because it came with free ones - once those run out, I wont bother. The drycare40 option enables to to dry anything that has a 40*c wash label on; tried this a few times, with some pretty good results, although you cant select above Normal Dry Level. Bed linen cycle does reverse tumbling... Finally, I have gone into the settings, and adjusted the sensors to run for a little longer! |

Well, the new washer has significantly more features than the machine it replaced, which was, at the time, their top of the range one before you make the leap to the circa £2500+ models!
It has finished calibrating, and I have now got it on a Quick Power Wash, with the twin dos, just to get through so much laundry that has built up. Once I am through the clothes, I'll revert back to using the Cottons/Automatic Plus/Minimum Iron/Shirts cycles as normal. First impressions - well, I loved the old one; this one is somehow a tad quieter, a bit shinier and more up to date! The motor has a slightly quieter hum (the other one was not loud in any shape or form) and seems to accelerate much quicker. I have gone into settings and put the rinse onto "Maximum Level" by default, and also adjusted the water plus setting to include extra water in the main wash. As with the old one, there is so much functionality to utilise. It's got a WiFi connection, which I have set up - and at the end of the cycle, it transmits a message to the Miele Dryer, telling it which was cycle was just run, and what the corresponding dry cycle should be! Time will tell how this one gets on, so I'll write a further update in a few months Again, Miele in my mind really do know how to keep customers very fond of them. Chris |

Hi Aussie-Plugs. I use that shirt cycle too (although I do find things are dripping wet at the end, perhaps that was because the old machine was first generation)
That’s great you had yours replaced too - funnily enough the delivery guy who came yesterday said “I guess this is a twin dos swap out. I see a lot of these” - and the engineer also told me it’s fairly common for the generation that had the metal drip pan. He said updated versions have a plastic drip pan on top of the metal and a redesigned system. Glad yours is sorted 😃 |
