Hello,

The KDS-16 I bought had a completely rotted out blower housing. The blower and heating element look fine. There are a few blower units on eBay. They seem to be from a 21 and some KUD models. I read through as many posts here on AW I could find about it, and learned there are slight differences in wattage and unit sizes. Will any of the ones I saw on eBay work, or does it need to be from the 15-17 series?

Thanks a bunch!

Drying unit for a KD15 through 17 dishwasher

The drying units in these machines were steel painted with a silver paint. They did tend to rust out overtime. Sometimes a little bit of water seats down into them, which really wreck them. With the 18 series and later they change this housing to aluminum and that aluminated the serious corrosion issues.

You may be able to use the newer one on an older machine the neck going up into the tank is a little longer on your older one, you could either fashion a piece of aluminum sheet metal with a clamp to adapt it to your older machine the wattage in 18 and later series went down to 800 W your older one is 1100 W so it was a little better at drawing quickly. They did the lower wattage in the 18 series to reduce energy consumption and also to reduce damage to the vinyl on the lower rack from the heat blowing in the right rear corner.

I probably have some good used ones of the older style. If you find a used one that’s a little bit rusty give it a couple good coats of high temperature aluminum spray paint before you put it into use it should last a long time. John
