VMW = Vertical Modular Washer, Whirlpool's name for the engineering/mechanical design introduced in 2010 that replaced the 1981 to ~2012 direct-drive. VMAX, I believe refers to the updated VMW design that is direct-drive. V presumably is Vertical, I don't know what is the MAX part. Direct-drive was code-named Laundry Engineering Advanced Product (LEAP). The Calypso design project was called Vanguard Technology. |
