Front load washers in my opinion out do TL machines most of the time. As mentioned, they use far less water and wash is a much higher concentration of detergent, They clean and rinse very well. I would avoid a front load washer that does not have its own water heater. The cycle times are no doubt much longer but it isn’t as if you have to sit in front of it waiting for it to finish the load. I have never experienced the smelly front load washer issue that is often a complaint heard. My LG fl smells as fresh as a daisy. I have never had any experience of a Speed Queen FL. The model I have seen available her in Australia did not have an onboard water heater and relied on the domestic hot water supply but I could be mistaken about this.

This is the same model I bought through John Lefever in 2016 and had imported to Australia and it now resides in our home.
Overall, it does a very good job at washing and rinsing, is quick and very well built in my opinion. As Spinspeed has said, it does not have a heater which sometimes i miss. I suppose i'm in a fortunate position that if I want to wash items at a much higher temperature, I go to my shed and use the vZug or Miele front loaders which have heaters. Cheers Leon |

I have the stainless steel model as pictured and love it have had it now for over three years. It’s my go to washer.
If you want a hotter wash, I just use the hot pre-wash, followed by a hot wash cycle. The clothing gets plenty hot enough. I have an 18 year-old Speed Queen front loader when they still sold models with heaters I’ve probably used it less than 20× and 18 years Takes way too long and uses too much electricity. And I can’t tell that it does any different. I’ve done comparison tests on cleaning and whitening and there’s no difference that I can perceive. Neither one of my Speed Queen front loaders ever had the slightest odor I do use bleach in about one and 10 loads however in the dispenser , I’ve never cleaned either machine in anyway. Of all the automatic washer. I’ve worked on over the past 55 years the current Speed Queen front loaders are the best automatic washer that’s ever been sold for home use, yes you can nitpick about certain details, but there’s never been anything as durable as easily repairable, etc. There is almost no plastic in this washing machine at all, it’s very fireproof and very recyclable. On Friday I installed two new Speed Queen stacks at a very expensive hotel downtown, they had us replace the two stacks that we put in in 2018 because they were starting to have a problem every once in a while The two machines we removed were still working and they had done over 44,000 loads of laundry each. My first frontloader a few years ago was the one our neighbors put to the curb, a Whirpool Duet. Still had our GE filter flo. However that Duet converted me. When it broke I immediately went out and got an LG front loader and would never go back to a top loader willingly. It washes better, it's quiet both washing and spinning, and it spins so much water out that very little drying time is required.

Top loaders definitely have their place. If I owned a farm and was covered in mud or washed things with lots of pet hair the top loader is your best bet. Front loaders are great for every day loads. I will say that for athletic wear just make sure you have a machine with prewash or you will get stinky clothes. I used to have a Maytag FL without prewash. My synthetic athletic wear always soaked up the stink. Prewash would have eliminated that.
