In today's Whirlpool advertisement, the 'active' water temperature selection and the 'active' water level selection is red.  Is this a photoshop addition, or did the controls actually work that way?  And if that's what they did, how was that feature accomplished?

Lawrence, the picture isn't perfect, but the cutouts for the water level and wash temperature are indeed red, thanks to tinted plastic.

Thanks for the information!  I was hoping that it was a true feature, but wasn't sure how WP would have accomplished this in 1956.

Vintage appliances had a lot of decorative/informative lighting.

Something else I notice in that ad was that the water level was the same in the tub on low as when on high.
