This fall I picked up this Maytag washing machine. It was listed on Facebook marketplace. I haven't had a chance to check it out as of yet.

I'm not as familiar with the AMP's as the helical models but I'm going to guess this is a 101P...probably around 1953-ish.

Should be a fun project.

My aunt had the same AMP that ran perfectly until she ended up in Assisted Living and let it go with her place when it was sold. I tried to get the lid up a half inch to see it agitating but it always stopped when I was a kid. But my '84 511 Maytag sounds the same as that one did, same clunk to go to into spin, although it used to be called Damp Dry.

That's a nice save, Justin. Glad you grabbed this one. Let me know if you end up needing anything AMP related for it.

I have one of those. It looks like it should clean-up nicely. Maybe some new belts and hoses. Look to see if the tranny has slung all the fluid out. It is normal for Maytag's to throw some tranny fluid, just not ALL of it!
They wash well although they have fairly small usable capacity. By the time some of the wash water has been sloshed overboard, the water level is usually stabilized at the level of those screws holding the outside tub on.
Fun to hear the pump gravitating during agitation.

There is a way to get around the mercury switch for your viewing pleasure.

Maybe some new belts

You mean belt, right? ;)

Never been inside an AMP transmission but I assume there's a lower o-ring seal like the helicals. The gearing inside these are the same as the first gen helicals, they just spin in the opposite direction. They also don't have the clutch washers.

I can drag out my microfiche films if you need any part#'s.

Respond with the model and serial number so we can decode them.
