I opened the door of my 1994 Creda 1087 to remove the spun load, to be greeted by whisps of smoke and a burning smell.

it seems the heater was energized after the final spin, during the end of cycle drain pump run.

This is a Welsh Hotpoint with Ako timer, it was a Comet special.

I remember buying it, I opened the door and saw the green plastic outer tub and bought it on the strength of that as our previous Washer had a vitreous enamelled tub which rusted and then pinholed.

After a quick look I think it`s a timer fault.

It was a reconditioned one with a 6 months guarantee that I fitted 15 years ago.

Now I cant find anyone that does these old electromechanical timers.

Does anyone know where I could get one repaired nowadays please?

Hello that's an unusual fault on your Creda washing machine , usually long lasting with simple motor brush changes .

If you can't find a suitable replacement we use Mark Hill who has looked at timers for us .

I've put link to his website for contact , may be worth giving him a contact and see if repairable .

Put a pic up if you can , be interesting to see it and let us know how you get on .

The heater activation contacts in the timer have welded themselves shut.

Electrical Sales in Colne have new timers to suit at £43 inc delivery. I fitted one of these and she is on her 5th load as I type.

They have put all their old stock up on their webshop and are a good source for G D A parts.

This machine has been intensively used for 30 years, tbh very little of the original machine still exists, apart from the speed control board, the wiring harness, the switchbank, the fascia panel, the castings and field coil assemblies of the motor.

I have had a new old stock speed control board gathering dust for the last 20 years in anticipation of electronic failure, but no, these entirelly analogue, triac based controllers, are made from much higher quality components than all the newer junk I come across.

Thats great news and glad to hear you managed to find one and youre back in business with your Creda Washing Machine.

Totally agree on stocking up on parts for these old classics and even better when you have a chance to fix them yourself.

Heres one of mine badged as Electra as well washing away !!
