Hello,

I'm looking to get a new washer and I'm debating between the Miele Little Giants ( now called Pro for the Home) and just getting regular Miele washer. It's only me and my spouse so we don't generate a ton of laundry. I heavily sort most of our clothes and I enjoy doing laundry. The Little Giant seems like the ultimate washer for a laundry geek like myself but I also think it might be overkill. Any ideas?

We have both. Bought the Little Giants because we generated laundry that required the hygeine abilities they provide- was a caregiver. They do their job quickly and efficiently, with consistently perfect results. That said, unless you need the temperatures they provide, you will be very happy with the W1 series. I’m finding that I use the W1 set for most of our clothes, with equally good results to the Little Giants especially in the lower temp washes. Twindos gets clothes clean and stain free without fuss. Heater works very well for a 120v machine.
Overall, I can recommend both machines. You won’t regret purchasing either, but the Little Giant is definitely overkill.

Thank you for your reply. It’s great to hear the W1 is just as good as the Little Giants. The sales person at the appliance store even told me it’s complete overkill for me to get the Little Giants.

The Little Giant is essentially an updated version of the 240 V washer they sold 15 years ago. The updated user interface has numerous wash programs which are VERY customizable. The built-in heater is much more powerful also, it can raise the wash temp by 65-70 degrees in 15 minutes!

Not at all

The current PWM908 Pro for the home / Little Giant has a few major differences.
First of, the drum is slightly larger (9l, or 1/3rd cuft just about).
Next, comparing to the TOL home version, it does not have a recirculation pump, but a different drum design to compensate for that.
And it has the higher heating power, meaning it can do a true 140F cottons cycle from cold in an hour.
The base machine shares a lot of parts with the W1 home version, but is generally designed to last 2-3 times as many cycles.

Many of these features aren't really needed in your situation. For 2 people the normal W1 drum is just fine, cycle times are sufficient and you won't wear down the machine that fast.

The dryers are an entirely different beast though.
The drum is larger for one.
The heatpump is larger and thus the dryer is faster (about 30min on a true full load, less on partial loads). Uses a bit more energy but barely so.
And most of all, instead of using the same motor for drum and process air flow, it has a seperate blower motor. That allows for more reversing without compromising drying times.
And it is rated for 2-3 times as many operating hours as well.

Does it make sense to spend 2-3 times as much on that?
Probably not.
Is it a generally superior dryer for the US consumer? Certainly.

Hi Henrik,

Are you saying the Little Giant heat pumps can dry a load in 30 mins, or that they’re half an hour faster than the domestic models?

The manual here says they’re about an hour per load.

Cheers

Nathan

Half an hour faster than the domestic machines.

For an 8kg load, the domestic machines are rated at 130min vs 79min for the LiGi, both with an 1600rpm spin.

With some fudge factor and real life situations, 30min of savings per load are realistic.

There is a compact HP dryer on the professional space that can do a 6kg load in just about 40min. That's ELux's TD6-7HP - though not sure of that's on sale in the US.

Thank you all for your comments. I'm still trying to decide between the 2. The appliance store is offering me a great deal on the little giants ($8k) for the set but still significantly more than a mid tier W1 set ($3.5K). I have to make my decision tomorrow.

As said, the LiGi are very very good machines.

But you're just 2 people - you're not running them 12h a day non stop 7 days a week like what the LiGi are designed to withstand.

Paying twice the price for not much use is a questionable value proposition.

Update

I found an even better deal on a Miele PW6068 new in box but left overstock I can’t wait to hook it up! Now I have to decide if I want the matching dryer or just a T1. The T1 sounds nice because it saves me from having to add another 240V. I’ll just use the existing 240V where the previous dryer was for the washer and use the 120V for the T1. This has been a fun little hobby project for me I must say. While we’ve been without a washer I’ve been sending the laundry out to the cleaners and I’ve never had such clean clothes. Last time I went to pick it up I asked what type of washers they were using and the owner gladly took me back and was showing off her machines. They mostly run Miele’s for wet cleaning and have an Electrolux set for comforters. It was my first time seeing them Octoplus set in person and I those would be a dream!

My last sentence should read; it was my first time see the Octoplus set in person and those would be a dream!

my apologies... always proofread and don't post when tired!

I found a place in Washington DC that had pw 6068 on closeout for $999! If it weren't so far away I would have gone up there to get one.

Get the T1!

The W1/T1’s weren’t out when we bought the 6065 set. The PT7035 condenser dryer is just ‘meh’ as a dryer. It heats up really hot, even on low and takes twice as long as the heat pump. The only up side is that everything is much smoother. I dry sheets and jeans in that one with an almost wrinkle free finish every time. I never dry clothes in the condenser, they tend to shrink. That’s where the heat pump excels. Forgetting to set the ‘gentle’ button doesn’t spell disaster like it would on the 7035
Congrats on the deal on the 6068!! Best washer available hands down!
Happy boiling washing!

@ askolover That's the machine I bought! We'll be heading down to DC next week to pick it up. I was really hesitant about the price it almost seemed too good to be true. I ordered it online and when I called the store to confirm I was waiting for them to tell me it was mistake!

@ aamassther That's great to know about the condenser getting really hot. I dry all my clothes on low heat, I hate the idea of shrunken clothes!
