Hi all,

We have a KA KDS 20 Superba Energysaver V that works great still, but the top rack isn't getting clean. We don't have a manual for it, unfortunately. How can we clean the filter, or whatever is causing this, to get a clean wash?

Thanks!

check the water feed tube

I've come across several people saying the top rack dosen't wash on their KA machines. In many cases the rubber tube that feeds the arm is cracked or rotted and leaking. My mother's KDP 20 had this issue. I would bet either Hobart or Whirlpool still stocks this part and it is easy to replace.

If the water feed tube for the top rack is OK, I would look at the valve/flapper in the check valve. Replacing this made a major difference in upper wash arm performance in my KDS22.

It is easy to replace. In the attached thread there is a picture of the valve and the GE part number. I believe I paid about $5 for the replacement valve.

The 20 series uses a reversing motor, so there is no check valve.

Reversing-motor units do have a check valve. What they don't have is a solenoid-activated drain valve, which is on the non-reversing motor units.

Check Valve is Item # 11

The GE substitute flapper is WD1X1486.

The first reversing Hobart Built Kitchenaid Dishwashers were the 21 Series.

The 20 series did not have a reversing motor.

About your dishwasher. If you have never cleaned the filter it might be a great thing to do. Just pull out the bottom rack. Lift off the Hydro-Sweep arm. Then just pull up on the filter. You can clean it in the sink with a toothbrush. Before putting it back in check around where the filter goes for foreign objects. Do this slowly and carefully as there could be broken glass in the area.

Per info I've found, seems that KDS20 is a non-reversing unit with drain valve.

KDS20A has a reversing motor with check valve, no drain valve.

Yes?

Not sure about the reversing motor issue, but I'll look into the other stuff for cleaning - thanks!

Does anyone know where to get replacement parts online? I'm in Canada, so a lot of the websites I have come across don't ship internationally

The KDS20A was the first model to use the KD21 reversing motor. They built only the Supurba for a short time just prior to introducing the 21 series.
