I wondered who had won that too. I think this is a mid 70s machine as I recall it from the time when my Mum was buying her first automatic and that was early 1975. Looks to be in reasonable order for its age too

Congratulations, looks to have been well cared for.Lots of action with spin drains and a 1000rpm spin speed.Strange beasts though,as they will only go into spin if full of water with pressure switch made. They were realy quite a bullet proof machine as they have a hefty induction motor with clutch and a plastic tub, so no rust problems.Great score,Regards Nige.

It's such a shame philips like many aren't around in the modern day as they'd be kickin out some cracking stuff I think!

The spin-drain is awesome! Shame you won't get the visual of it being a TL but at least you will get the experience. I'm sure it aided rinsing too!

Rich: Thaaanks. Bit of a drastic change but I do like it :-) The WFF2000 is sat next to my Zanussi in my ex's garage atm whilst my LG is sat in her kitchen. Hmpf.

I'm going to try and get those shortly i'm moving house with my folks this week. Hope ur well.

Darren

How do guys.

Apologies for the tease and then silence, but i have regular issues with my computer and signing into discuss o mat.
Will try logging in, but the computer just acts as if I am not signed in. Then, all of a sudden, i can enter the site to find i am signed in! weird.

Anyways - the slimstar!

Cleaned up really nicely - some piccies from the angle i saw it as a child, installed sideways under a removable worktop extention at my grandmas house.
The facia ran up the right hand side of the machine and the blue lid handle was against the side of the sink unit.

hough it from the angle below, the front of the machine was against the side of the sink, so couldnt be viewed...

in fact this is probably the more realistic view i had of the machine, though i did see the facia on the occasions that it had just been used - nvere saw it in action though...

Date code 647!

47th week of 1976.

Hadnt realised that these were made in Britain - I always assumed it would have been built on the continent...

Will post some pics of the facia later on.

If anyone has some other photos of the different versions of Slimstar, or any other Philips machines, please feel free to post some.

How is your AWB119 doing Louis?

Paul,

That is an awesome machine!! I remember these from the ad in the women's magazines my mother read. I was fascinated by the 1000rpm spin. The later models with the variable spin speed like my AWB119 didn't spin faster than 850rpm. But then again those were made in France IIRC.

Years ago I saw a similar model overhere at the curb. It was in a bad state, but nevertheless I went home to get my camera and took some pictures. Here's the thread with them, they are at the bottom of the thread. There are more Philips pictures in this thread, including an ad of the machine you found and a picture you posted there yourself.

That slimstar is built like a tank. Wish they made the drums to that standard now. it looks like its still got its original drain hose aswell. Made in Great Britain you can sure tell.

Hiya guys.

Until i get a new computer, I will have to be content with being a weekend poster at Discuss o Mat.
Oh well.

Hi Louis. I have never been able to find out for sure the spin speed of this early version HN3156.
I know for a fact that the bronze dial version of the HN3156 was 1000rpm and the machine you saw in the street is obviously 1000rpm.
Is my machine 1000rpm, or a touch slower - say 850rpm?

Final batch of Slimstar pictures to follow - the facia....

IIRC this model has a 1000rpm spinspeed. The later models, the chrome ones with the dial for the spin speed had a max. of 850rpm (or lower, depending on the model). The later models with the detergent dispenser in the lid of the drum had went up to 1100rpm for the TOL model.

So thats where I got the figure 850 from - the later models.

Still not managed to plug and properly play with it yet - cant wait to see how it performs.

A very nice machine indeed Paul! The state in which it is is really stunning! I have never ever seen a Philips washing machine from that age in such a good state. I'm officially jealous now! lo

Hi Louis.

I am pleased to be able to give it a home and secure future, so long as I am its custodian.

Never thought I would see one again and just hope one day to be able to show it to my gran.

Attach below a Good Housekeeping washing machine report, from Mike's collection, in which they speak in glowing terms of the HN3156 Slimstar...

Wonderful reading material Paul! They sure like the Philips. I must say that the price for that machine is much lower than I thought. The later Philips washers were quite expensive

paul,

I realy enjoyed that so thankyou for posting it. I realy enjoyed reading about the aquamatic 1 and its price was reasonable well cheaper than mine £300 odd.

thanks

Chris.

its price was reasonable well cheaper than mine

The £166.42 the Aquamatic cost when this article was published (1976 I'm guessing?) would be the same as paying £934.21 today with inflation.

Certainly not cheaper! Even the cheapest machine there (the Indesit L5, which had a 380rpm max spin speed I believe) which cost £124.30 back then would cost £697.77 now.

That's why machines back then were so much better made than they are now, you paid Miele prices for a basic Indesit.

Interesting that the Zanussi top loader's spin performance left clothes with 100% water retention, yet they say it spun! Does anyone know what the spin speed woul have been?

That Philips is a beaut though, congrats! It's always especially nice to find a childhood machine!

Matt
