Hey guys. What can you tell me about the recent Hotpoint dishwashers? What is their wash system like? How does dry boost work on these? I know they're GE's.
What can you tell me about them? I'd like to know. Thank you.

Hotpoint portable?

I do not have a Hotpoint labeled dishwasher, mine is a newer GE. I can talk a little bit about this but not too much because I’m not really sure if I have the model in which you’re inquiring about. I have never owned a GE product before in my life. But, the machine I got recently I think may have very similar parts and the wash system could be similar as well but I’m unsure.

I got this machine in January, two years old. Its performance is shocking. This machine runs all the arms simultaneously and has a manual cleaning filter, and also has a food chopper. The filter rarely needs cleaning it cleans itself every cycle which I love. But the performance is not what I expected, it’s far better than I expected from this machine. I wanted to find a tall tub portable dishwasher, and one that was very new and this was the one I found for an incredible deal used. Wash system is very quiet, slightly louder than my 2019 Maytag. Only downside is that the Auto and Heavy cycles are extremely long, so I use the 48 min light wash everytime unless I’d like to sanitize a full load. Heavy plus SANI is almost four hours if not more, it’s totally outrageous because this machine cleans my dishes within the first few minutes of the pre wash, each arm has very good strong flow. Im guessing some of the other built in models are alike, but not really sure. So far I absolutely love it, the lower rack really irritates me but I’ve gotten used to it. Upper rack has two settings. This machine has taken out cloudiness from glasses and dishes that have been washed for years in terrible water conditions and they were totally stained, vinegar wouldn’t even remove the film. But with the SANI cycle, it removed half of it on each dish the first time I ran a load. Impressive results. There was a review on this particular machine from review.com I think and they said for a cheaper machine like this it has very very high performance that you would expect from a very expensive KitchenAid, Bosch, etc and I can attest to that conclusion it cleans effortlessly. That’s my point of view on my newer GE made machine, even though I believe GE is made in China or at least some models are made in China? Can anyone explain that please? I’m still lost on that one

This is the nicest and most sleek portable full sized dishwasher in America currently, so this was my only option to get a stainless steel tall tub in a portable unit, the rest are plastic from whirlpool. Guess whirlpool is too lazy to compete. I wasn’t thrilled about it being a GE, but as I said the performance was beyond my expectations and I’m pleased with it. This machine also releases the perfect dose of rinse agent every time, I now don’t have any issues with spotting and residue. It does not have a rinse aid selector though which I was disappointed by, but it releases enough on its own infact it seems to guzzle it. Hope this input helps

Also! I totally forgot to mention this machines drying system. My machine has a heater under the floor of the tub, no element. Heats the pre wash instantly. Does not have a dry cycle because this machine reaches a high enough temp in order to dry the dishes once it’s finished I would imagine as the manual didn’t state anything about it. In my experience it dries just fine, plastic items will never dry in this machine unless I crack the door to flash dry. Now I do know the built in Hotpoint and GE models still have heating elements, so that will be a bonus for drying compared to my model. Dry boost is probably just another term for heated dry I’d imagine. GE experts feel free to chime in!! I’m father more familiar and educated with Whirlpool than GE products. Also they do make my specific model in a built in version as well, available in black white and stainless ext. but they are more rare.

New plastic tub, Hotpoint, basic Dishwashers

The stainless steel tub, portable dishwasher in reply, one and two has nothing to do with a Hotpoint Dishwashers, the stainless steel tub model is a Chinese dishwasher.

These Chinese dishwashers have been sold under various labels for the past 10 or more years in the US they generally do not hold up. Well and they’re very difficult to work on

Hopefully they’ve gotten a little better.

Anything Hotpoint makes to day is for low end uses and the rental market! Stay away!

Thanks John, I figured that was the case. Upon using that machine nothing about it feels or looks American at all. The difference in quality compared to our whirlpool and Maytag is astonishing, whirlpool being a much higher grade of quality than my new GE. Don’t say that John I just got the dang thing LOL! We will see how long she lasts, im not expecting too much but it’s been a great machine for portable use.

Jerome, that Hotpoint is the sibling to the GE GDF535PGRWW recently installed by my property managers that I posted about. I was gonna link to the post I did two or so months ago, but it seems to have disappeared. You may recall that my first impression was that loading was a taste challenging, that the wash arms alternate, and that Dry Boost works surprisingly well. The 55 dBA rating is spot on. There are quieter machines; OTOH, we are far away from the noisy GE base models of 50-40-30 years ago.

So, this will be a chance to update my dear aw.org audience: I learned that no-heat drying is achieved by selecting the 1-hour cycle. Talking of rinse agent - I was dismayed by how quickly the machine was drinking it up. Consulting the user guide and adjusting the dial inside the cup to minimum solved that. This week, I cleaned the filter for the first time. It has a cylinder with ultra fine mesh sitting on a plastic mat with slots in. It was easy to remove/replace.

There has been nothing major or minor to break or fail at this time and it still cleans well enough. I am giving it plenty of chances to break down since I use it on average two times a week; occasionally three.

Hotpoint dishwasher American-made

So why are they touting this dishwasher to be American made? They don't feel tough to me. Why are they saying that?

LOL! Not everything American made is “tough” which itself is a relative term.
GEs dishwashers are still made in Haier’s facilities in Louisville KY.
Most of the parts are Chinese. They’re just slapped together here.
I hope they moved away from those awful brush type Johnson motors. They are prone to leaks. And my parents’ 7yr old GE just died. Leaking all over the subfloor and cabinets.

wash and drain pumps

So what wash and drain pumps are they using in these dishwashers labeled GE/Hotpoint now?
