If I had the space or if I didn't had my Kenmore, I'd buy this in a heart beat!

Those GE versions have to be pretty rare these days.

This makes me so emotional. yell Why couldn't GE have used this design for all their post FF washers? The agony the world would have been spared.  I mean if they can afford to sell this design briefly, they can afford it indefinitely.

See, if everyone was like me this is what modern day Whirlpools, Kenmore, GEs, Hotpoints, Maytags, Amanas, Ropers, ect, ect would look like. We'd take one look at the sales floor and not a single model T or VMW would sell while simultaneously company phone lines crash getting an earful. Watch how quickly old designs will stay around either indefinitely or become superseded by ones that use more metal, are heavier and last longer. 10 year parts and labor warranty on everything no questions asked.

This rebadged Speed Queen/Amana/GE Washer

Unless I’m mistaken it was sold by Home Depot

Spot them by the lower panel...

The Amana branded models had a light gray lower panel on both washer and dryer, actually was attractive with gray accent on the control panel.   Saw them sold under Maytag, Amana, GE (not sure what contractual obligation GE stumbled into to get these)  They had some serious issues, seal/bearing failures, saw a couple on the junk pile wallowing in a puddle of their own oil.   Most didn't last five years so this GE labeled machine is a really rare bird.

The Amana-style dryers weren't terrible, grabbed a few from the pile and re-sold them.

Alliance has demonstrated that with a some simple re-engineering this design can last 15-20 years. Imagine if post FF GEs lasted 20 years by default.

How I wish that this design, and the Maytag Helical was the dominant selling washer in 2023.

I had no idea General Electric based their washers on Speed Queen once upon a time.

There was a point in the 90s when GE was whoring it's name out and sticking the badge on other makers appliances. Why?

GE speed Queen design top load washer

These were the same as Amana tags and had all the associated problems with main seal failures.

The dryer was even worse. It was also like the Maytag Amanas style speed queen dryer.

I only sold a couple of these GEs so I don’t think this product lasted very long in their lineup

Around the same time there were even admiral built refrigerators with the GE name on them. GE must have made a brief deal with Maytag as Maytag was going under.

Didn’t Maytag at one point put their name on these Speed Queen’s? Remember seeing one (can’t remember where) that had the Maytag name on it since I recognized the Speed Queen console.

wash action

GE could've used this wash action after they came out with the filter-flo line. What were they thinking?

test marketing

As mentioned by others above, these were sold at Home Depot and were only marketed for a VERY short time. I purchased a set for my sister and brother-in-law. I believe it was around the late nineties.

My speculation is GE was test marketing a stainless steel washer with their name on it. This was back before GE ever had a stainless tub washer, or stainless drum dryer. It was a a good way to test the waters without going full fledged into production.

My brother-in-law had a difficult time registering the machines for warranty purposes. He called the GE "hotline" and when he read off the model and serial numbers they told him they were not their machines. I think with great effort he eventually convinced them otherwise. Apparently they were so new, administration failed to have told the hotline workers or enter them into their database.

GE Hotline around that time was good as their appliances, a total farce. Something as simple as ordering a part was social BDSM. The workers had a mixture of ignorant and arrogant, acted like they were corporate heroes who new everything all while treating you like clueless child. Not surprised, GE at its core is highly dysfunctional.

@GELaundry4ever: Its not what GE thinks, its that GE doesn't think. GE had the opportunity to seize this design, perfect it like Alliance did, and build a reputation that perhaps even the FFs could not fully realize. Then again, perhaps it was better that Alliance took hold of the design as they are a commercial orientated company. Then again, I can't deny the fact FFs were in laundromats...
