Was the Royal the top of the Inglis line?

Essentially a 1965 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII dryer but with the Inglis name.

I’ve learned quite a bit since I acquired my ‘63 Mark XII set, expanded my horizons as well. Greg Nunn has the Whirlpool version of that Inglis dryer in gas as seen in reply #38 picture #7 Micheal (Mickeyd) has the matching Mark XII washer as well in reply #10.

Nice dryer

Looks like they have the bottom panel on upside down.

Oh wow, Sean after reading your Imperial Mark XII thread, I must say I really want one now lol. I've always preferred Kenmore personally, but that is absolutely beautiful! You did a fantastic job on that.

Thats right Melvin, Royal was the TOL model for Inglis. Citation was next to TOL, Sterling was MOL, Superb was next to BOL and Liberator was the BOL. They used this naming convention consistently for several decades, almost the entire 50 or so years Inglis was its own company.

This is a 1966 model - great find and thanks for sharing!

Thanks! It’s come a long way in the 3 years I’ve owned the set, currently trying to see if it’s possible to 3D print a new cam assembly for the timer since the original broke on me earlier this year, it’s possible but will take some time though. One day, I might strip the dryer down to have it painted inside and out to give it a cosmetic restoration, mechanically and electronically it’s fine, just want to have it repainted so it’ll look new. A friend of my father could do that since he painted the ‘67 Camaro back in 2013 and has all the resources to mix up some turquoise paint. May even do the same thing to the washer one day as well once I have the means and space to do so. Gradually restoring and fixing them as time goes on.

That door will fit many WP dryers with the side swing door style. You can even put it on the newer style dryers beginning with the mid 60s change to the more efficient drum and bulkhead design. I think that WP had many window doors made for their 29" combos and had to find a way to use them when combo sales tanked. The Atlanta Gas Light Company sold WP dryers with the window. It made a dramatic display piece in the showroom window, especially with a few brightly colored towels tumbling in it and a spotlight shining on it. After the combo doors were used up, the concave dish-shaped window was replaced with an almost flat piece of glass. To me, WP dryers with the glass window were a sad reminder of the demise of the combo.

Brian yes your memory is likely spot on. There was Niagara and Normandie machines as well but these weren't consistently offered with each line up year by year. They were usually MOL machines and I speculate these may have been exclusive/promotional models for certain retailers, probably the higher volume ones. These were more prevalent in the 1970's and 1980's
